A 55-year-old outer Delhi resident was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a five-year-old child in south-east Delhi’s New Friends Colony area. The accused, identified as Mukhtar Sheikh, works as a security guard in the Taimoor Nagar area.
The incident took place around 2 pm on Monday, when the victim was playing outside her home. Her mother was busy with some domestic chores at the time. Sheikh lured the child on the pretext of giving her candy and took her to his guard room nearby.
He let her off after threatening her of dire consequences, if she revealed the incident to anybody. The child’s mother later found her lying on the bed and noticed that her behaviour was different. She picked the child up and saw that her clothes had blood stains.
The victim then began to cry and narrated her ordeal. The agitated parents then informed the neighbours, who started looking for the accused. Soon, they caught hold of Sheikh and thrashed him. A PCR call was made, after which a police team reached the spot and arrested the accused.
A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) was registered at the New Friends Colony police station. Sheikh was produced at a city court and sent in to the judicial custody.
