Umesh Yadav realises father’s dream, secures assistant manager job in RBI

Here’s an interesting story. About a decade ago, 19-year-old Umesh Yadav had his sights firmly set on pursuing his father’s dream of holding a government job. For that, Yadav had prepared himself for an examination which would make him eligible for a post of constable in the police department. Unfortunately, the youngster missed the cut by a whisker. But now, Yadav and his father Tilak Yadav’s dream finally seems to have come true, this time in a much bigger way.

The 29-year-old has been appointed as an assistant manager in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) at its Nagpur office. He had reportedly completed the formalities of the same on Monday before leaving to spearhead the Indian bowling attack in the forthcoming tour of Sri Lanka, starting from 26 July.

Although this may come as a surprise to many, the talks of his appointment had been going on for a while now. “The talks were on before the Champions Trophy. He had met RBI officials before leaving for England in May. The officials gave a go ahead to his appointment in sports quota, but due to national duties he couldn’t complete (the) formalities,” a source close to the development told the Times of India.

During the Vidarbha Ranji Trophy camp in 2008, the then Vidarbha skipper Preetam Gandhe straightaway took Yadav to Air India where he received his first contract. However, despite performing well, Air India didn’t offer him a permanent job.

“He should have got a permanent job straightaway but things didn’t work out. He always wanted to represent a reputed organisation. That was the reason he didn’t make any hurry. Now, he has got what he deserved,” the source added.

The source also added that Yadav couldn’t have asked for a better organisation than the RBI and though he may no longer need the security of a government job, the appointment still means a lot to him.
