Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message in a nutshell

I request all of of you to switch off all the lights of your house on 5th April at 9 PM for 9 minutes, and just light a candle, ‘diya’, or mobile’s flashlight, to mark our fight against coronavirus. I appeal to people to avoid gathering anywhere during this period. You don’t have to go out on the streets and in the colonies, but do it from your doorsteps and balconies.

The way you paid gratitude to people fighting against COVID-19,on March 22 has become a model that is being emulated by other countries. Janata curfew and ringing of bells/clanging utensils, made the country aware of its unity amid this challenging time.

Today when crores of people are inside homes, then some of us may think how will they fight this battle against #COVID19 alone. Such questions might come up in your mind? But please remember, none of us is alone. The strength of 130 crores of Indians is with each one of us:9:38 AM IST | 03 APR 2020Watch PM Modi’s Full Video Message Here

Background

Coronavirus In India LIVE Updates: Days into the second week of the 3-week nationwide lockdown in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a video message with the people of the country on Friday. ‘I request all of you to switch off all the lights of your house on 5th April at 9 PM for 9 minutes, and just light a candle, ‘diya’, or mobile’s flashlight, to mark our fight against Coronavirus, said PM Modi. He made the announcement on Thursday night that he will be sharing a message with the people of the country, as the nation’s battle with Coornavirus continues. This week, the nation witnessed Tablighi Jamaat congregation at national Capital Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz emerging as the hotspot of the coronavirus outbreak across several states. A 56-year-old resident of Dharavi area of Mumbai who had contracted coronavirus died on Wednesday evening, prompting the civic authorities to seal the building where he lived. Densely-populated Dharavi is famous as one of the largest slums in Asia. Prime Minister Narednra Modi interacted with the Chief Ministers of all states via video conference . Congress president Sonia Gandhi targeted the Centre over ‘unplanned’ and ‘hasty’ implementation of lockdown at Congress Working Committee meeting (via video conferencing). Meanwhile, another audio clip of Maulana Saad of Tablighi jamaat has surfaced where he said he is under self isolation.

The total count of the positive Covid-19 cases in the country breached the 2000-mark and the number of those dead crossed 50. Meanwhile, Maharashtra and Kerala remained the worst-hit states with maximum number of coronavirus cases.

Over two thousand people have been whisked from Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz area by officials after the religious gathering held earlier this month came to light, those with symptoms have been sent to hospitals, while the rest were sent for isolation. The Delhi government had directed the police to register an FIR against Maulana Saad Kandalwi of Nizamuddin Markaz after several cases of suspected coronavirus were found in the Nizamuddin area.

The Maulana has been accused of organising a Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the area, even as the lockdown was announced, thus flouting the social distancing norms.

On Tuesday, some places were identified as hotspots across the country. These are Dilshad Garden and Nizamuddin in Delhi, Noida and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Bhilwara in Rajasthan, Ahmedabad, Kasargod and Pathanamthitta in Kerala, Mumbai and Pune. The identification of cases at these places will help ramp up the testing process.
