Education bookshops, fan shops to be exempted from lockdown: Govt
The Union Home Ministry has extended relaxation to several agriculture and commercial industries from the lockdown restrictions. In the commercial sector, shops selling textbooks and establishments selling electric fans can also operate. In the agricultural sector, the relaxation has been extended to facilities for export or import such as pack houses, inspection and treatment facilities for seeds and horticulture produce. It also includes relaxation to research establishments dealing with the agriculture and horticulture activities and the inter- and intra-state movement of planting materials and honey bee colonies, honey and other beehive products.
The Union Home Ministry also also ordered Standard Operating Procedure for the sign-on and sign-off of Indian seafarers (crew members) at Indian ports and their movement. According to the SOP laid down for sign-in of a Indian crew member, the ministry said that the seafarer will have to intimate their travel and contact history for the last 28 days to the ship owner or the recruitment and placement service.8:42 AM IST | 22 APR 2020

Gujarat now second after Maharashtra with 2,178 cases, sees 19 more deaths
Tuesday proved to be a bad day for Gujarat, as the state not only crossed the 2,000 mark for coronavirus patients but reached the second spot in the country, after Maharashtra, with 2,178. The day saw the maximum number of deaths due to coronavirus with 19 patients succumbing to the virus, the most so far. The state’s toll has now reached 90. The deaths included four women – two aged 40, one aged 52 and one 70, two males, aged 65, and 70, admitted in SVP Hospital, Ahmedabad and a female, 65, in Civil Hospital Surat. All of them had co-morbidity. Also, three females – aged 60, 63, and 70 – and a male, 66, admitted in the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, a female (55) admitted in Civil Hospital Surat and a male (40) admitted in the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) Hospital Gotri, succumbed to the virus. After Ghaziabad, Noida seals borders with Delhi

Maharashtra records 19 Covid-19 deaths, new cases cross 5,000
For the second time in 48 hours, Maharashtra got a shocking 552 new Covid-19 positive cases with the total cases crossing 5,000 to stand at 5,218, besides notching 19 deaths, health officials.
This has taken up the state’s total fatalities from 232 to 251, and the positive cases from 4,666 to 5,218.

19 new Covid-19 cases in Kerala, 117 under treatment
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that there were 19 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the total number presently under treatment to 117. The state’s cumulative total, including those cured, stands at 426.
It is after a long while we have had this many new cases. Today there are 36,335 people under observation at homes and 332 at various hospitals in the state, CM said.

The states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu continued to be the worst hit as fresh cases of the novel virus continued to pour in on Tuesday amid state governments taking all requisite precautions to contain the spread of the virus.
The national capital region also witnessed a spike in the number of cases with the overall tally surging past the 2000 mark. The govt announced the closure of the Delhi-Ghaziabad border inorder to prevent the spread of the virus which has already accounted for quite a few deaths.
