Coronavirus In India LIVE Updates : The number of lives claimed by the Covid-19 coronavirus in India escalated sharply to 640 on Wednesday morning, with the total tally of positive cases rapidly nearing the 20,000 mark. Gujarat is now second after Maharashtra with 2,178 Covid-19 cases, as it saw 19 more deaths. Home Minister Amit Shah interacted with IMA doctors and assured them security and appealed to them to not to do even symbolic protest as proposed by them. He said that the government is with them.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh urged CBI and ED to take the Wadhawan family into their custody as their quarantine period in Mahabaleshwar ends today at 2 pm.

Amidst heightening of tension between the centre and the West Bengal government, the Chief secretary of West Bengal wrote to the Union Home Secretary and alleged that the IMCT had arrived without any prior consultation with WB government.

Education bookshops, fan shops to be exempted from lockdown: Govt

The Union Home Ministry has extended relaxation to several agriculture and commercial industries from the lockdown restrictions. In the commercial sector, shops selling textbooks and establishments selling electric fans can also operate. In the agricultural sector, the relaxation has been extended to facilities for export or import such as pack houses, inspection and treatment facilities for seeds and horticulture produce. It also includes relaxation to research establishments dealing with the agriculture and horticulture activities and the inter- and intra-state movement of planting materials and honey bee colonies, honey and other beehive products.

The Union Home Ministry also also ordered Standard Operating Procedure for the sign-on and sign-off of Indian seafarers (crew members) at Indian ports and their movement. According to the SOP laid down for sign-in of a Indian crew member, the ministry said that the seafarer will have to intimate their travel and contact history for the last 28 days to the ship owner or the recruitment and placement service.8:42 AM IST | 22 APR 2020

Tuesday proved to be a bad day for Gujarat, as the state not only crossed the 2,000 mark for coronavirus patients but reached the second spot in the country, after Maharashtra, with 2,178. The day saw the maximum number of deaths due to coronavirus with 19 patients succumbing to the virus, the most so far. The state’s toll has now reached 90. The deaths included four women – two aged 40, one aged 52 and one 70, two males, aged 65, and 70, admitted in SVP Hospital, Ahmedabad and a female, 65, in Civil Hospital Surat. All of them had co-morbidity. Also, three females – aged 60, 63, and 70 – and a male, 66, admitted in the Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, a female (55) admitted in Civil Hospital Surat and a male (40) admitted in the Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS) Hospital Gotri, succumbed to the virus. After Ghaziabad, Noida seals borders with Delhi

Maharashtra records 19 Covid-19 deaths, new cases cross 5,000

For the second time in 48 hours, Maharashtra got a shocking 552 new Covid-19 positive cases with the total cases crossing 5,000 to stand at 5,218, besides notching 19 deaths, health officials.

This has taken up the state’s total fatalities from 232 to 251, and the positive cases from 4,666 to 5,218.

Of the total 19 deaths, 12 were recorded in Mumbai, taking the city’s total to 151 and the number of Covid-19 positive patients shot up from 3,032 on April 20 to 3,451.10:13 PM IST | 21 APR 2020

19 new Covid-19 cases in Kerala, 117 under treatment

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday said that there were 19 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the total number presently under treatment to 117. The state’s cumulative total, including those cured, stands at 426.

It is after a long while we have had this many new cases. Today there are 36,335 people under observation at homes and 332 at various hospitals in the state, CM said.

With a major spike in the number of deaths & new cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s total number of COVID 19 positive cases rose to 19984 and death toll jumped to 640. . The states of Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu continued to be the worst hit as fresh cases of the novel virus continued to pour in on Tuesday amid state governments taking all requisite precautions to contain the spread of the virus.


The national capital region also witnessed a spike in the number of cases with the overall tally surging past the 2000 mark. The govt announced the closure of the Delhi-Ghaziabad border inorder to prevent the spread of the virus which has already accounted for quite a few deaths.

The stock markets on Tuesday opened in the red with both the BSE and NSE indices taking a major plunge on the back of the historic fall in the US Crude oil prices which plummeted to a historic low on the back of tepid oil demand.The US WTI Brent Crude oil traded in the negative for the first time in history sending shock waves around the world economy and financial markets.

Earlier in the day, Ministry of Home Affairs said that supply of non-essential goods by E-Commerce companies to remain prohibited during lockdown period. The nation entered the 26th day of the nationwide lockdown imposed to counter the transmission of Covid-19 pandemic. The total number of COVID 19 cases in India crossed the 15000 mark with over 500 deaths reported. The state of Maharashtra continued to be the worst affected. Maharashtra corona cases jumped to 3651 on Sunday. Delhi, Mumbai and Indore continue to be the major hotbeds as far as major cities in the nation are concerned.

The Union Health Ministry on Friday giving out its latest update on the Coronavirus pandemic said that before implementation of the nationwide lockdown, COVID 19 cases in the country were doubling in 3 days but over last 7 days, data shows that it had declined to 6.2 days now and in 19 states and Union Territories (UTs), Covid-19 doubling rate is less than the country’s average.
